We Should Be Friends
a community-building project
creating spaces for real connection in an increasingly disconnected world
*
our story
We Should Be Friends began in Vancouver in 2021 with a simple mission: to create spaces for adults to meet and make friends in what felt like an increasingly isolating city.
After posting a TikTok about her own journey finding community after moving to Vancouver, Katrina Martin received hundreds of comments from people expressing their own frustrations and struggles with friendship and loneliness.
Over the last four years, Martin has organized and hosted nearly a hundred events — from casual park and beach hangouts, to pottery and ring making events, to pilates and yoga classes. She has organized thousands of Vancouverites into book club groups, and has even hosted multi-day camping trips to Tofino, BC.
No matter the event, the mission always remains the same: to foster friendship and connection, and create welcoming, inclusive spaces for all.
